RULES FOR HOME ECONOMICS DIVISION

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ
1. Exhibitors must live in county or attend a White County School.
2. According to regulations from the Arkansas Livestock & Poultry Commission, Exhibitors may enter exhibits in only 1 county fair.
3. Before entering, all exhibitors MUST register and be given an exhibitor number at the Educational Building.
4. Junior Division is open to any White County resident at least 5 years (with the exception of food preservation and food preparation, you must be 8 years old) through their 19th birthday or once following graduation from high school, whichever occurs last. Labels in junior division entries must include age of the exhibitor.
5. Articles exhibited must have been grown, produced or made by persons under whose names they are listed and made since last fair. Exhibitor must use the same name, and number, on all exhibits throughout the fair. Articles bought or borrowed will be disqualified.
6. Articles should be in NEW condition and never been exhibited at any county fair.
7. CHECK-IN TImes – All articles in Educational Building and Agriculture Building may be checked in from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14. Note Exception: Fine Arts exhibits (Adults & Students) will be accepted from 1:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 11 and from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 14. SCHOOLS ONLY CHECK IN – 8:00-12:00 NOON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13. Individuals who enter items should remain with their items until they are checked in.
8. Right is reserved by division superintendent to refuse or accept conditionally any exhibit either before or after the entry is made.
9. No two entries in the same class will be made by the same individual, unless specified. If pairs of articles are entered, only one will be judged.
10. The classification method of judging will be used. Cash awards will be determined by point basis.
11. Points will vary. Value of points cannot be determined until all points are tabulated.
12. ONLY ARTICLES LISTED IN THE FAIR TABLOID WILL BE JUDGED.
13. Labels - Exhibits are to be labeled to include name, exhibitor number, name of article, age of exhibitor (if a junior), division and class. Labeling must be done before entering. Exhibitor must be an amateur as opposed to a professional (one who makes their livelihood by producing/selling the articles). Labels can be picked up in advance at the Extension office.
14. All exhibits must stay in place until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20. Exhibitors removing articles from exhibit before check-out time will forfeit right to any prize money and ribbons.
15. The Fair Association will exercise precaution to prevent loss or damage but will not be responsible should any occur.
16. Judging for all perishables (fruits, vegetables, field crops, flowers and plants, and food preparation) will begin at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Agriculture Building will be closed during judging. Judging of Fine Arts begins at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
17. Judging of all other Home Economics exhibits will begin at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. The Educational Building will close at 9:00 a.m. and reopen at 2:00 p.m. or when judging is completed.
18. CHECK-OUT TIMES – Please note: check-out time for all Home Economics Divisions, both youth and adult, Arts and Educational Exhibits will be Sunday, September 19 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Superintendents will be on duty to assist in checking out. The exhibit building will be locked at 3:30 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday, 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Superintendents of Fair will not be responsible for articles not called for by 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 20. Only official workers will be allowed in the Educational Building before 2:00 p.m. See Food Preservation category for details for District Fair entries. Items not picked up in 30 days will be destroyed.
19. Premium checks will be available at the Educational Building, White County Fairgrounds, Sunday, September 20 from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Checks will be mailed if a stamped, self-addressed envelope is provided by the exhibitor. Premium checks will be void after 90 days.
20. Because ribbons are sometimes misplaced, the Judge’s Book will be the final authority for determination of winners and payments will be made in accordance with the exhibits therein. Exhibitors have 30 days to contest any discrepancies.
21. BEST OF SHOW AWARDS – One item determined “Best of Show” in each home economics adult and youth category will be on display during the 2009 fair. Exhibitors of “Best of Show” products will receive a rosette and 10 additional points.
22. Photographs of exhibitors with their Best of Show exhibits will be made at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 19 in the Educational Building and Agriculture Building.
